Holiday Decorating Safety Tips

The holidays are right around the corner. Stay safe while decorating this holiday season by following the tips listed below…and don’t forget to have fun!

  • Check labels on artificial Christmas trees to ensure that they are fire resistant
  • Artificial Snow Spray can irritate lungs, especially when used in an area that is not well ventilated
  • Do not use more than 3 standard strands of Christmas lights per 1 extension cord
  • NEVER use electric lights on a metallic tree
  • Avoid using paper garland around fireplaces or around electric outlets
  • NEVER burn candles near Evergreens
  • Check that the flue is open before starting fires in a fireplace
  • If you are using a large tree to decorate, use guy-wires to secure the tree to the wall or ceiling
  • Whenever you use a ladder, make sure that there is another person in the room with you
  • If you choose to use a fresh tree, check to make sure that the needles are not too dried out- dried out needles are a fire hazard

Wishing you a safe and happy holiday season,
